Treatment of Pinched Nerve in the Lower Back
Dealing with a pinched nerve in the lower back can be excruciating, causing pain, discomfort, and limiting your mobility. The condition occurs when there is undue pressure or compression on a nerve in the lower spinal region, leading to pain, numbness, and tingling sensations. Fortunately, there are various effective treatments available that can alleviate the symptoms and promote the healing process. In this article, we will delve into the different treatment options for a pinched nerve in the lower back.
Effective Treatments for Low Back Pain
What are the most effective treatments for low back pain?
Are Epidurals Effective for Sciatica?
Epidural steroid injections can be a highly effective treatment for those with sciatica.
Stem Cell Therapy for Knee Osteoarthritis
From the recent American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons annual meeting there was this statement-
“Hundreds of clinics in the United States are selling stem cell treatments for knee osteoarthritis without solid evidence of their claims, researchers warn.”
Causes of Hip Pain
There are many causes of hip pain. In this article Dr. Sobel discusses a few. of the more common ones.
Lower Back and Neck Pain
More than likely if you are reading this you are or have suffered from acute or chronic back pain. Back pain is a very common complaint affecting upwards of 80% of the population at one point or another during their lives. The good news about acute back pain is that most people get better even without medical intervention in a few weeks to months. On the flip side, the pain can often times become intermittent with each episodes lasting a few weeks and occurring randomly over a period of many years. Chronic back pain on the other hand, frequently does not get better without some type of medical care whether that being medication, spine injections, physical therapy, regular exercise or surgery.
Treatment Options for Tendinitis
Chronic tendinitis is a common problem that increases in prevalence with increasing age. The areas most commonly affected include the outside of the elbow commonly referred to as tennis elbow, the inside of the elbow (golfer’s elbow), the outside of the hip, the front of the knee, the Achilles tendon and the heel.
What is Degenerative Disc Disease
The term, degenerative disc disease is slightly inaccurate because it is technically not a disease, nor is it strictly degenerative. It is not considered a disease because degenerative changes in the spine are natural and common.
Is it Sciatica or my sciatic nerve
One of the questions I frequently get asked in my practice is what is the difference between sciatica and sciatic nerve. Many patients tell me that they have a problem with their sciatic nerve and that is why they came in to be seen. The term sciatica come from the latin ‘sciaticus’ and is used to describe pain affecting the back, hip, and outer side of the leg, caused by compression of a spinal nerve root in the lower back, often owing to degeneration of an intervertebral disk.
Common Shoulder Problems
What most people call the shoulder is really several joints that combine with tendons and muscles to allow a wide range of motion in the arm — from scratching your back to throwing a Frisbee to reaching overhead to put something on shelf.
The shoulder’s great mobility has its price, however. It may lead to increasing problems with instability or impingement of the soft tissue or bony structures in your shoulder, resulting in pain. You may feel pain only when you move your shoulder, or all of the time. The pain may be temporary or it may continue and require medical diagnosis and treatment.
Boot Camp for Chronic Back Pain
The chronic pain syndrome is a complex medical problem that needs to be treated with a multi pronged approach. For example, individuals with chronic sciatica, chronic low back pain or chronic neck and shoulder pain not only have physical impairments due to the deconditioning process but they also typically have a significant fear of movement and fear of re-injury that affects their ability to overcome their chronic pain syndrome.
Are Disc Bulges Significant?
If you are over 30 years of age and have gone into your doctor and complained of back pain more than likely an X-ray was done. If your pain was bad enough and not letting up odds are that you had an MRI of your spine. You were probably told that you had degenerative disc disease or possibly a disc bulge that was causing your pain.
Spondylolysis and Spondylolithesis
Among child and adolescent athletes, spondylolysis typically represents a fracture of the posterior arch (back part of the spine) in the lower lumbar spine due to overuse and is a relatively common cause of low back pain.
Treatments for Chronic Back Pain
Chronic pain syndromes are influenced by many factors beyond the original tissue damage. After several months of pain, individuals develop secondary problems that for many people become a bigger barrier to recovery than the original injury. For example, chronic pain sufferers develop significant loss of physical conditioning from a combination of reduced activity and the fear of causing further harm to themselves.
